Tengger Tribe Commends Probolinggo Police for Restoring Bromo's Tourism Image
PROBOLINGGO – Expressions of gratitude and appreciation continue to pour in to the Probolinggo Police for uncovering the theft of several bags belonging to Thai tourists.
This time, Tengger residents, along with Tengger tribal leaders, went directly to the Probolinggo Police to express their appreciation and support to the Probolinggo Police Chief, AKBP M. Wahyudin Latif, on Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
The Head of Ngadisari Village, Sukapura, Probolinggo Regency, Sunaryono, stated that the disappearance of the Thai tourist's bag has tarnished the image of tourism in Indonesia, particularly in Probolinggo Regency.
"This could tarnish not only tourism in our region of Probolinggo, but also Indonesia in general, and this incident has disturbed the peace of the Tengger community," he said at Probolinggo Police Headquarters.
Sunaryono, a prominent Tengger community figure, expressed his appreciation for the swift action of the police, specifically the Probolinggo Police and their staff, in handling the case.
"We appreciate the police's performance, and this case must be processed through the prosecutor's office and the courts to create a real deterrent effect for criminals in the Bromo area," he emphasized.
It is hoped that the police's swift action in successfully solving this case will restore the image of Indonesian tourism, particularly Bromo tourism in Probolinggo.
Meanwhile, Probolinggo Police Chief, AKBP M. Wahyudin Latif, expressed his gratitude for the visit and support of the Tengger community to the Probolinggo Police.
He emphasized that the successful resolution of the case demonstrates the National Police's commitment to providing a sense of security to all members of the community without exception.
AKBP Latif said the visit of the Tengger community leaders encouraged the Probolinggo Police and their East Java Regional Police to continue improving their services and protection for the community.
"The successful resolution of this case is inseparable from the support and information provided by the community," said AKBP Latif.
He also added that the Mount Bromo tourist area is a regional icon that must be jointly protected, both in terms of security and comfort for domestic and international tourists.
"We are committed to taking firm action against any criminal acts that could disrupt public order and security, especially in tourist areas," stated AKBP Latif.
The Probolinggo Police Chief hopes that synergy between the police and the community will be maintained, as this is key to creating a safe and conducive environment. (*)
